On February 4, 2021, Professor Joseph Nye, Emeritus and Former Dean of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting. In his speech examining the importance of the concepts of morality and virtue in United States foreign policy, Prof. Nye compared the decisions made by former US Presidents like Truman and Nixon during times of crisis and explained how one should think about the role of these concepts in politics. Quoting his recently-published book on the subject, Prof. Nye stressed that in order to behave morally in foreign policy, several factors like intention, means, rights and effect have to remain compatible with each other. Following his speech, Prof. Nye answered the participants’ questions.
