Online Panel Titled "After the NATO Ankara Summit: Euro-Atlantic Security and Türkiye"

The Global Relations Forum (GRF), Ankara Policy Center (APM), and the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (EDAM) jointly organized an online panel titled “After the NATO Ankara Summit: Euro-Atlantic Security and Türkiye” on 28 July 2026.

The panel featured GRF President Ambassador (R) Timur Söylemez, GRF Board Member Murad Bayar, APM President Ambassador (R) Fatih Ceylan, and Prof. Dr. Zeynep Alemdar, Professor of International Relations at Doğuş University and Foreign Policy Director at EDAM, as speakers.

The panel addressed the key outcomes of the NATO Ankara Summit for the future of the Alliance, Euro-Atlantic security, and Türkiye, including the reaffirmation of the commitment to Article 5, efforts to strengthen Europe’s defence capacity, defence industry cooperation, and the development of new capabilities. Discussions also focused on the evolving role of the United States in European security, the strengthening of NATO’s European pillar, changing approaches to deterrence and societal resilience, and Türkiye’s potential contribution to European security through its military capabilities, operational experience, and defence industry. The panel further examined the existing institutional and political obstacles in Türkiye-EU security and defence relations, Türkiye’s prospects for participation in European defence initiatives, and the opportunities and risks that the increasing Europeanization of NATO may present for Türkiye.
