“Seats, Portfolios, and Power: What the 2026 Data Actually Tells Us”

Zeina Hilal, Manager of the Gender Partnership Programme and Youth Participation Programme at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Mariana Duarte Mutzenberg, Programme Officer of the IPU Gender Programme, and Professor Zeynep Alemdar, Professor of International Relations at Doğuş University and Director of the Foreign Policy Programme at EDAM, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online panel held on 21 May 2026.

Moderated by Barçın Yinanç, Member of the GRF Board of Directors, the discussion focused on recent trends in women’s political representation, drawing on the findings of the Women in Politics: 2026 map published by IPU and UN Women. Participants examined women’s representation in parliaments and cabinets, regional variations, their role in decision-making processes, and policy tools aimed at strengthening gender equality in politics.
