February 22, 2019

The Global Relations Forum (GRF) Task Force on “Global Trade and Turkey in the 21st Century” completed its work and presented its Task Force Report to GRF members and members of the press at the launch meeting on February 22, 2019.

During the meeting, the Task Force Co-Chairs Ambassador (F) Bozkurt Aran and Undersecretary for the State Planning Organization (F) Ali Tigrel; President & CEO of Kale Group Zeynep Bodur Okyay; TEB Chairman and Governor of Central Bank of Turkey (F) Yavuz Canevi and Professor of Economics & Director of the Center for International Economics at Bilkent University Sübidey Togan each shared with the participants the latest developments in global trade and their assessments concerning the Task Force Report.

The Task Force Report discusses economic trends in a period where the role of international trade in the global economy is being re-evaluated, and makes suggestions concerning Turkey’s long term policy choices. The report also prioritizes the issues expected to emerge in the creation of new forms of trade agreements, and argues that Turkey needs to prepare for an international order focused on the international trade of services and where new forms of trade agreements will shape the flow of trade.
