December 16, 2025
Jacob Poushter, Associate Research Director at the Pew Research Center, addressed GRF and GRF Community members at an online meeting titled “How People Around the World View AI” held on December 16, 2025, as part of the Technology and Socioeconomic Transformation meeting series. The meeting, which also featured contributions from Pew researchers Moira Fagan and Manolo Corichi, examined the findings of a comprehensive public opinion survey conducted by the Pew Research Center across 25 countries.
Discussions focused on global levels of awareness regarding the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into everyday life, the prevailing balance between public concern and optimism, and how these perceptions vary across socio-demographic variables such as income level, age, education, gender, and internet usage.
In addition, a comparative analysis was presented on levels of trust in governments, the European Union, the United States, and China as regulatory actors across different countries and political contexts. The discussion also addressed what global perceptions of AI governance imply for policymaking. The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session.
