On February 28, 2017, Ambassador Mithat Rende, Former Permanent Representative of Turkey to the OECD and former Chairman of the OECD Executive Committee, addressed GRF and GRF community members at a roundtable meeting. During his speech entitled “The Prospects of Turkey as an Energy Hub in the Light of the Current Geostrategic and Economic Developments?” Ambassador Rende argued that in the next 20 years, the Mediterranean basin will require its own energy hub to support the growing consumption. He then pointed to Turkey, Greece and Italy as the leading candidates for the role of the region’s energy hub. Ambassador Rende then assessed Turkey’s chances to become a regional energy hub before elaborating on what Turkey should improve to strengthen its bid. Following his speech, the Ambassador answered the participants’ questions.
