Online Meeting with Prof. Esen Ercan Alp

As part of the GRF Renowned Scientists Series, Prof. Esen Ercan Alp, Distinguished Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory and President of the Turkish-American Scientists and Scholars Association (TASSA), addressed the members of the GRF and GRF Communities at an online meeting held on May 30, 2025.
In the meeting titled “Scientific, Technological and Economic Impacts of Large-Scale Research Infrastructure”, Prof. Alp provided an in-depth analysis of how ongoing transformations in science and technology influence the development trajectories of countries. He emphasized the critical role that national laboratories — which host large-scale experimental physics research — play in facilitating the emergence of new technologies. Prof. Alp also discussed how science can be conducted on a global scale, illustrating how organic collaborations between universities, national laboratories, industry, and government institutions are established, drawing on examples from the United States and the European Union.
