Gülru Necipoğlu has been serving as the Aga Khan Professor of Islamic
Art in the Department of History of Art and Architecture, and as the
Director of the Aga Khan Program at Harvard University since 1993. She
is a member of the Executive Committee for the ARCH-NET Project at
M.I.T., the Board of Trustees of Sabancı University, the Board of
Sabancı Museum, the Steering Committee of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal
Program in Islamic Studies at Harvard and the Executive Board of Centro
Internazionale di Studi di Archittettura Andrea Palladio, Vicenza.
Prof Necipoğlu is on the editorial board of several journals and is
editor of Muqarnas. She is an elected member of the American Academy of
Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society and the
recipient of numerous book awards, grants and fellowships. She received
her BA at Wesleyan University, and her MA and PhD from Harvard
University’s Department of History of Art and Architecture.
