Roundtable Meeting with
Prof. Sergei Guriev,
Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

On April 4, 2018, Prof. Sergei Guriev, Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) addressed GRF members at a roundtable meeting. In his speech entitled “Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Emerging Markets”, Prof. Guriev drew attention to the importance of inclusive and fair economic growth models and their political sustainability. He also argued that if the benefits of economic growth are not shared broadly, there is a risk of populism and reversal of pro-growth policies. Prof. Guriev analyzed the various sources of global economic inequality, and elaborated on the lack of inclusion as an emerging issue in the world of rapid technological change. Following his speech, Prof. Guriev answered the participants’ questions.
