On December 18, 2023, John J. Mearsheimer, Professor of Political Science at University of Chicago, addressed Global Relations Forum (GRF) and Ankara Policy Center (APM) members at a jointly-organized online meeting. With opening speeches from GRF President Ambassador (R) Selim Yenel and APM President Ambassador (R) Fatih Ceylan, as well as moderation from Bilgi University Professor of Political Science and Former Rector & GRF Member Prof. İlter Turan, Prof. Mearsheimer gave a presentation entitled "A Realist Perspective on A Multipolar and Multilayered World", examining the current state of international relations, great power rivalries, the search for a global hegemon, and regional crises.

Considered to be one of the preeminent "Realist" thinkers in the field of international relations, Prof. Mearsheimer gave his insights into a number of topics ranging from the systemic crises of the post-Cold War world, NATO enlargement, dynamics of East-West/North-South/"The West and the Rest" relations, as well as "Power Politics". Touching on the current situation with regards to both the Russia-Ukraine and Hamas-Israel conflicts, Prof. Mearsheimer shared with the participants the potential reflections of these crises to Turkey. Following his speech, Prof. Mearsheimer answered GRF and APM members’ questions.
